Sharon and I are here with Kate, Geoff, and D.J. from dislocate (dislocate.net), and Lilikoi, for the Chookahs festival. These guys are fantastic. Very professional. I really like all the stuff that they do.

The kids and teachers are loving that Sharon is lifting me off the ground. Go Sharon!

This is my entry for the Mactalk Photography Competition

The theme for the competition is “Eerie.” I have been thinking long and hard about what I might enter for over 3 weeks now. Then one night when I was lying in bed I looked up and saw the little witch that I bought from a little shop in Chinatown in San Frascisco. I thought, hmm, this could be interesting. That’s when I envisaged the Witch flying on her broomstick in front of the full moon.
Last night I decided that I was going to take the picture. I needed some sort of light coloured round thing to act as the moon. I would be able to blur it with a f/1.8. I could hang the moon and Witch on string (but I used small gauge fencing wire because I could not find the string) off brooms — but I needed assistance.
I thought about it and came up with this setup.

Mum and Sarah were very gracious with helping me on a cold Melbourne night. Dad came out to help but forgot to close the door so all the cats got out. Sar was worried about Otto running onto the road and went to get him, when a big dog from across the road got out and it’s owners could not get it back in.
Sar started freaking out about the dog thinking that it would eat Otto. I went out and the dog was a gorgeous Siberian Husky that just wanted to play. It’s owners finally grabbed the puppy, and Sar eventually got Otto back inside then went to bed.
In post production I faded the colours, added some blue highlights, and lowered the colour temp. I also did some minor photoshopping out of the string from the top of the Witch’s Hat.
Needless to say that I am extremely happy with the photo.

I have been playing around with different post processing techniques. I am heading into the era of making … hold on a tic. You know how you are watching tele and then some footage comes on from back in the 80s and the colours are all different and have “that look”. Whatever “that look” is. I am inspired by it.
